Chinese herbalists use this herb for upper- respiratory infections, which includes symptoms of yellow phlegm. It is very effective for cough with yellow phlegm that is difficult to expectorate. It is also used for mental imbalances described as invisible phlegm obstructing the heart.

| Dosage:
30-60 grams; 9-15 grams for coughs. The herb is often taken with ginger juice.

| Safety:
Dried bamboo sap should not be used for coughs that are associated with cold or by those with spleen deficiency with symptoms such as diarrhea.
