Acupressure

Acupressure can be used as an adjunct therapy in the treatment of migraine pain and the underlying cause of this physical disturbance.
bulletMassage your head as if you were shampooing your hair.
bulletPlace your thumbs underneath the base of the skull on either side of the spinal column. Tilt your head back slightly and press upward for 2 minutes while breathing deeply.

It can be very helpful to massage the points described below. Use deep thumb pressure for at least 1 minute.

GB 20. This point is known as ‘The Gates of Consciousness points,’ Applying pressure on this point can relieve migraine headaches as well as neck pain. Use the thumbs of both hands to press the GB 20 points, which are situated two inches out from the middle of your neck, underneath the base of the skull. Sit down in a chair and bend over, with your elbows propped on a table or desk, to make holding these points most comfortable. Breathe deeply and press firmly for one to two minutes.

Lv 3. On the top of your foot in the valley between the big toe and second toe. Using either your thumb or your right heel, apply pressure on top of this spot and rub for one minute. Then switch and work the opposite foot.

For headaches on the forehead and above the eyes:

Li 4: In the webbing between the thumb and index finger at the highest spot of the muscle when the thumb and index finger are brought close together (Use in combination with LV 3 to relax the jaw.)

For headache on the sides of the head or temples:

TW 5: on the forearm, three finger widths above the wrist crease, between the two bones.
